The daughter of a wealthy lapidary and jeweler, Neela was far more interested in carrying on her father's business than marrying or raising a family. It is more than a profession, it is a religion to her: obsessed with crystallography, communing with Elemental spirits, and creating pieces that are as much a living prayer as a work of art.

She did not think she had time for love of people other than her parents in her life.

One day while bargaining in a shop where occult materials wrre supplied, Neela was accosted by a strange woman who pressed a baby into her arms and then disappeared. Neela took the infant in and raised her.

Her daughter, whom she named Layla bore tattoos from a cult from the Purple Islands. She was a sweet child, that Neela loves with all her heart. When Layla fell ill, a Cleric told her that only a pair of  crystals of a specific size and shape could cleanse the girl.

Neela chartered passage to Kelis, but once away from the shore she was imprisoned and abused by the Captain then made a slave.

At Outpost 111 she was sold to Golmore, a wizard intent on creating pliable, magic-using servitors. For Neela, however, he had other purposes. He used charm person spells and drugs to turn her into his simpering, pliant sex slave.

When the mind control faded after months, she continued to play the part so he would not renew the Spell. She knew she needed a good plan to escape.

Golmore often experimented with an alien teleportation beam in the crashed starship he used as a lair, trying to capture human test subjects. It often killed them. She carefully collected and stashed useful equipment for the dead. She made suggestions about where to store goods and hold his prisoners.

When he finally caught some men alive, she set them free and got their help in escaping. During the escape, she murdered Golmore and vowed to never let herself become a slave again.

Special: Neela is an expert on crystal lore and knows how to safely carve crystals and how to use them.

Tarrant

Tarrant, Ready for Battle

Nephew and squire of Sir Cuthbert, Tarrant is part of his expedition to the Purple Islands, and has little choice but to serve as its most zealous leader.

Not that zeal is a problem: When he was younger, Tarrant witnessed a wizard abducting a woman in broad daylight. He rushed to the rescue, only to be trapped in the same spell. The Wizard made him do unspeakable things both to the women and to innocents while he was under the spell. His time while subject to the wizard’s experiments left him with a tentacle in place of a right hand.

Ever since, his desire to punish those that misuse magic has been a burning passion. At the same time he is haunted by a part of himself that enjoyed the horrid things he did while under that sorcerer's thrall.

He has been a regular volunteer in witch finders of the Order of the Crow, when his duties as a squire permit. And now, hopes to help pare back the corruption that infests the Purple Isles.

As a Crowsman, Tarrant worship Khorus, the faceless God of Laws, Justice, Negotiation, and Righteous Fury.

His family in part pushed to have Tarrant sent to the Purple Islands in hopes of eroding his religiosity so that he might make a more politic and compromising head of household. At present, they fear that he will be too honest to keep the family rich and influential.

Tarrant was snatched off of Sir Cuthbert 's ship by the teleport action beam of the wizard Golmore.

Special: Tarrant has an extra die on any VSd6 roll involving Non-Combat and non saving throw rolls directly related to hunting down an evil wizard.

Holden

Neutral 3rd Level Voidwarped

An officer in the military campaigns in Western Irya, Holden spent many years far from home. Only the thoughts of his wife and family kept him sane. It was a dark, brutal time, and he lost much.

When he came home to find his wife and older brother in bed, it broke him. He left his life behind and wandered, homeless and half mad. In a final point of despair, while looking at a beautiful, starry Vista, he commended himself to the goddess of Fate, Benedetti, praying that if he were meant to die mad and alone, she should take him then. Or if not, he begged her show him a sign. Then he cast himself into a ravine.

As it turns out, it was not. The waters of the ravine washed him to the cistern of a monastery dedicated to her worship and study of the stars. There he rededicated his life to understanding both the cruelty and kindness of the Goddess.

After years of monastic life, a messenger came to him, bearing news of the death of an uncle. Apparently, he had spent many years trying to find Holden, and only learned of where he was after he had become too ill to travel. That the uncle had hoped to let him know that there were some who cared for him and wished that he would return. That uncle left him a deed to a tower on Korus that had belonged to an ancestor several generations back.

In a vision that night, the Goddess came to him in a dream, as she had the Night he flowed on the river, and bid him mend what he could of the Wounds in time on the Purple Islands. She told him that service as her agent had been his fate since he cast himself into the river. But that his first fate was yet incomplete…

… that one day he would be murdered by someone he trusted.

Holden signed on to the expedition of Sir Cuthbert as an easy way to reach the Islands. He intends to convert his ancestor's temple into a shrine, and raise a group of warrior monks to purge the Islands of their strange corruption. On his way to the Islands, howrver, he was abducted by the Wizard Golmore and escaped with the help of Neela, Tarrant, Mord, and Jonas.

Early in his adventures on Kravian, Holden discovered a dimensional gate. He prayed to Benedetti to close it. When she chose not to do so, he realized that he needed to show her he was willing to fulfill the quest given him. He borrowed the magic sword Elegance from Mord and used it to strike the gate. He Shattered it, but was sucked into another dimension. He was saved only through Tarrant's prayers and the intercession of Khorus. But he came back... Changed..

Special: A gift from Benedetti gives him an innate sense for where time and space is wounded that lets him, among other things, sense dimensional rifts.

Mord

Chaotic 3rd Level Fighter

Mord and Scarlett

"Useless, treacherous bastard and thug! Drinker of slime! Blaspheme! Pervert! Slug brother!" That's what even the Demon Oracle Pazunia called Mord when he paid to hear his fate in the blood of alley cats. Among even viler names. Whatever he was damned to do, even Hell thought him contemptible. He shrugged off her stream of invective with a smile. He always did. Half of it was fair. Mord does whatever it takes to get a little joy along with his survival. He's charming, strong as an ox, and clever, to boot. Of course, that same night the Thief takers started hunting him for a matter of a stolen goat, some missing coin, and and indecency enacted upon a local goodwife. So, he hopped on the first ship to set sail. Little did he know it was sailing for the Purple Islands… ...Ah, never mind that. There's wealth to be won on those isles for a man with a handy hand and strong back.

Mord has come to love the Purple Islands. Here his strength and skill of arms is swiftly making him rich. He has the love of a high-born slave-girl, and bears Scarlett, the Abyssal Blood-iron sword of Lust, which he took from the corpse of Golmore the Wizard.

Scarlett is an enchanted sword that gained sentience after centuries of use by berserkers and madmen in the slaughter of demons and devils. It is a blade with a deeply hedonic personality. It enjoys excess, be it violence, sex, or indulgence, which it can enjoy vicariously through its weilder. It pushes Mord ever further into decadence.

Special: Mord is talented at making people laugh, even when he has just robbed or insulted them.

Jonas

Neutral 3rd Level Wizard

Jonas, slinger

Once a humble cobbler, Jonas was below - average in, well, everything. He was dull-witted, awkward, and clumsy. And desperate to be more. So desperate that he sought out the advice of a Hobgoblin witch-doctor, who told him of slime pits beneath a nearby marsh that could remake lesser goblins into greater one's.

Jonas went to the ooze pits and bathed in the sludge. He partook of the fungus, and brewed the creep. And it did transform him. He came out smarter, more handsome… otherworldly. And he had gained a rudimentary understanding of Magic through his Hallucinogenic journey. It has also left him with strange proclivities...

As his comprehension grew through his use of more conventional hallucinogens, Jonas decided to give up his trade and look for a way to reach an even higher level of consciousness.

He sought out magicians who could help him improve his knowledge, and teach him the formulae for more powerful drugs. He has has many prophetic dreams since the journey to the Ooze pits. Now they have shown him strange splendors on the Purple Islands.

Now that he is on the Islands, he feels anything but ordinary. He has captured the Spellbook of Golmore and his minion Maythe, and learned the spells. Now he skks the legendary crystals of the Islands to transmute into Spellbook ink. He also hopes to learn more by glimpsing the Face of God.

Although he is only beginning his journey, Jonas has taken on an apprentice, Benne... A slave he freed who is desperate to learn magic, and seems willing to do almost anything to secure training.

Special: Jonas can learn new spells through heavy use of Hallucinogenic herbs. When he gains a level he may make a save vs. Poison. If he fails, he gains a new spell.
